Zanzibar Passenger and RoRo Ferry Terminal Masterplan

Zanzibar, Tanzania

The Zanzibar Passenger and RoRo Ferry Terminal Masterplan (34 ha) is a comprehensive and future-proof plan to provide the people of Zanzibar and East Africa with modern maritime transit infrastructure; meanwhile creating quality jobs and GDP growth for the region.

  • The site includes a patch of exisiting mangroves, which will be considered in project planning and conservation approaches. These mangroves serve as essential filtration for the up-coast pollution, in additon to being crucial ecosystem keystones for biodiversity and erosion control.

  • Expansion of ferry infrastructure will increase accessibility to education, healthcare, Community connections, and will ease access to quality employment opportunities for all.; as well as greater connectivity between the economies and cultures of Zanzibar and East Africa.

  • Essentially, the project aims to grow into a “town-within-a-town”. Commercial amenities that are included in the development are not limited to a Ferry and RoRo Terminal Hotel, a vast array of F&B options, an open-air retail centre and hospitality-logistics facilities, as well as a police station, fire station, energy plant, maintenance buildings, and government / customs / military post. As a state-of-the-art facility, we seek to maximise the amount of solar panels, water reclamation and indigenous landscaping in the project for minimal footprint.
