Utrecht Medical Center
Utrecht, The Netherlands
The Utrecht Medical Center (UMC) seeks to position itself as a state-of-the-art healthcare provider by creating a master plan that will inspire a campus atmosphere and solves logistical challenges for those using the hospital.
-
The master plan introduces a large landscaped elliptical common area on the north side ties all the main front entrances to the center – and especially the polyclinic facilities – for guests arriving by car.
-
Internally, the existing courtyards of the nursing units will be converted into waiting areas for the polyclinic patients with seating areas under large, overhead skylights.
-
The south side master plan focuses on the creation of a campus boulevard with a pedestrian and bike traffic connection to the university and public transport. This boulevard connection to university facilities reinforces UMC’s extension as a premier teaching hospital in The Netherlands.
